The Presenter

TIDBF’s mandate is to promote the tradition and sport of dragon boating; to enhance awareness of Asian and Chinese-Canadian cultural and to strengthen cross-cultural understanding. Since 1989, the Festival takes place in June to promote cultural understanding and act as supporting attractions to tourists coming to Toronto. It has been recognized as one of the signature cultural events in Toronto that promote heritage and arts in this highly diversify region of the country.

On average, over 5,000 athletes participating in the heritage dragon boat race with over 80 local artists, artisan and heritage performances, 200+ volunteers participating in this 2-day festival. It draws over 65,000 visitors per year to Toronto Centre Island.

Being one of the most culturally significant and heritage sport events, the Festival includes competitive heritage dragon races for all ages and physical abilities, entertainment, cultural and heritage, and tourism enhancement activities. The Festival has been proven to be a valuable platform reaching out to diverse groups of visitors and tourist across the Country and internationally.


The Organizer

The Toronto Chinese Business Association (TCBA), a non-profit and the first Chinese business association, was established in 1972 in Greater Toronto. It looks after the economic well-being of Chinese business and acts as a representative in liaison with all levels of Government. It is a major force in promoting and assisting corporations to make inroad in to Chinese markets and helping Chinese Canadian business to reach out to the mainstream. It has been building bridges of understanding between all multicultural communities for the past four decades. Its mission strives to advance the economic well-being and commercial interests of Chinese Canadian businesses and to foster the network between Chinese business community, the mainstream and other ethnic business communities. 

Its objectives is to provide fellowship and harmony among members engaged in trade and commerce and to advance the commercial and economic interest of Chinese Canadian business in Toronto; to take an active interest and participate unsocial welfare of the Chinese Canadian community.

TCBA has contributed tremendously to the improvement of the quality of life in Chinatown. It has been proactively responsive to the concerns raised by the Chinese community. Over the years, TCBA has been dedicated to create a healthy and sustainable environment for Chinese Business in Toronto.
